A Mile in Her Shoes: Changing Perspective on Domestic Violence

Nobody chooses to be a victim of violent crime. Yet, when confronted with domestic or relationship violence, we commonly lay blame for the crime at the feet of the abused, rather than the abuser.  Ryan Calvert, a prosecutor, explains how a simple change in our mindset can transform how we see the issue. For 17 years, Ryan has prosecuted criminal cases in Texas, first in the DFW area, and currently in Brazos County, Texas (Bryan/College Station). Ryan has tried nearly 300 cases to juries, including crimes involving sexual assault, child abuse, and homicide. Beyond the courtroom, Ryan trains prosecutors and police officers across Texas on how to investigate and prosecute crimes more effectively. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
